Proper Ways to Brush your Teeth
Keeping your teeth and mouth healthy is important. The best way to do this is to know how to brush your teeth properly. Also remember to come in for dental examinations. We can examine your teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy. If there is a cavity, we can notice it and fix it before it turns into a larger issue. We can also advise you on proper brushing techniques. Typically, people think they are brushing longer than they actually are. Most will spend less than a minute brushing their teeth. Ideally, teeth should be brushed twice a day for at least two minutes. Also remember to get the right kind of toothbrush. It should not be too big or too small. Make sure it has soft bristles so it does not do damage to your teeth or gums.
Besides a manual toothbrush, you can choose to use an electric toothbrush. Electric toothbrushes will generally do a better job of cleaning because they have timers. The timers allow you to brush the teeth without thinking about how long you are brushing. With an electric toothbrush, after the end of two minutes it turns off. When you choose a toothpaste, pick one with fluoride to help make the teeth stronger and fend off decay. Also remember to brush your tongue. Brushing the tongue can decrease odor-causing bacteria that builds up over time. It can also help to freshen your breath. Mouthwashes can also help to remove particles before or after your brush your teeth. It will temporarily suppress bad breath by reducing the bacteria in the mouth. Mouthwash also offers a refreshing and pleasant taste after you use it. Finish up your oral care by making sure to floss at least once a day. This removes food that could be caught between teeth. If you ever notice any pain or anything out of the norm with your mouth, make sure to schedule an appointment so we can inspect your teeth.
