Brushing your teeth at least twice a day is important, but are you sure you know how to brush? There are often small habits that you can change that will help improve how you brush. If you have any questions about your oral hygiene, it is recommended to come see us, so we can advise you on your question. When you brush your teeth, also remember to brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth so you remove all the germs.

Not Replacing your Toothbrush

You should replace your toothbrush every three to four months for dental health, but many people let it go way beyond this point. When the bristles become splayed out, they cannot properly clean the various surfaces of your teeth. Also many of the power brushes lose cleaning power as the brush head ages.

Brushing Back and Forth

Often, the brushing mistake has to do with brushing technique itself. You should brush in a circular motion, angling the bristles of the brush at a forty five degree angle to the gumline and focus on a couple teeth at a time. This enables you to clean under the gums, where most plaque is present and causes the most harm. It will also helps avoid over-brushing. Typically, people will not always follow a set order as they move around their mouth brushing. If you brush in this fashion, you tend to miss various surfaces of the teeth because it is hard to know where you have and have not brushed. You should brush your teeth with a systematic approach. There are four quadrants of the mouth and three surfaces to brush per tooth. You should brush all the surfaces of one quadrant of the mouth at a time.”

Brush Long Enough

Most people, when asked how long they brush, typically say about one to two minutes, when in reality they typically brush for only thirty seconds. It is important to access all the areas of the mouth and all surfaces of the teeth to effectively clean the tooth surfaces of bacteria and food, and to coat each tooth surface with the cleansing toothpaste. Also remember to use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste when you brush. This will make sure that none is wasted, but you are able to clean your teeth effectively. No matter what question you have about brushing your teeth, or your oral health, it is important to come in for regular visits so we can inspect the teeth properly, for you. This can help you to have a happy and healthy mouth.

This is a really useful breakdown. I’ve been trying to get my kids to brush properly, and I’m going to test out the angle technique you mentioned—it makes a lot of sense. For anyone wanting more context on dental health in games, I found some interesting parallels on Neverness to Everness Wiki.

I really appreciated how you broke down the common mistakes people make with brushing—I had no idea I was probably pressing too hard. The tip about holding the brush at a 45-degree angle was a game changer for me. For anyone looking to dive deeper into the weird history behind dental care myths, Bizarre Lineage Wiki has some surprisingly fun rabbit holes on the topic.

I’ve definitely been guilty of letting my toothbrush go way past the three-to-four month mark, so that reminder about splayed bristles losing cleaning power hit home. Changing the brush head more often is such a small habit, but it makes a big difference—I actually learned a few more tips like this from ScopeQuill. And I’ll admit, I usually skip brushing my tongue, so thanks for that nudge too.

I never realized how much a worn-out toothbrush could affect cleaning—mine definitely lasts longer than the four-month mark you mentioned. For keeping track of when to swap heads, I’ve found SubtitleOps helpful for setting reminders so my bristles don’t get too splayed. Thanks for the tip about brushing the tongue and roof of the mouth too.

I went through "Make sure to Brush Your Teeth Correctly" just now, and the examples made the message feel very concrete. I also liked how you touched on youtube transcript generator. Appreciate you publishing this.
